Stress is a fact of life.  There are many different types of stressors;

  • emotional
  • physical
  • chemical
  • mental

Stress is necessary to life.  If we do not stress a muscle it will atrophy.  If bones are not stressed that will lead to osteoporosis.  Likewise, mental stress increases our intelect, and emotional stress increases our capacity for compassion.  Each of us has a "load Capacity" when it comes to stress.  It doesn't matter what kind of stress we have, it all goes into the same "load".  So stress from all of the different areas accumulate, and eventually we exceed our "load capacity".  That is when stress causes illness.  So how do we "dump or load" to reduce the accumulation of stress?  This is the key, not avoidance of stress, but management of stress.  Emotional and mental stress can be dealt with through a number of ways.  Sleep is one.  This is a two edged sword.  we don't want to withdraw from life and hide in our recliner or bed, this actually works to create more stress.  However, a 10 to 15 minute "power Nap" in the afternoon will manytimes do wonders to release some stress.  Meditation is another productive and efficient way to reduce stress both mental, emotional, and even physical. Getting the heart rate up through exercise will also clear the mind as well as strengthen the body.  There are certain types of foods that actually add to our stress, IE: junk food, red meats, and caffeine.  So good nutrition also helps us avoid the accumulation of stress.  There are things that we can do to also increase our "load Capacity" for stress.  If our body is out of balance, that greatly lowers our capacity.  Spinal misalignments called vertebral subluxations occur through everyday life, and put pressure on the nerves of the body. Chiropractic manipulation is the only way to correct those.  Muscle tension through the build up of lactic acids and other metabolites can also reduce our capacity.  Massage is a great way to rid our body of this type of tension.  If you have any questions, write to This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it or call 955-1555.
